Apple introduces iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite at this years' World Wide
Developers Conference. Unlike the previous years, Apple completely focused on
the developers at WWDC 2014. This years WWDC was all about the developers as
Apple didn't launch a single piece of hardware at the event.
Apple started the event by showing of a video
about how they feel about the developers and how their apps influence everyone.
Then as usual Tim Cook talked on all the stats about the standing of iOS 7 and
OS X Mavericks in the market. Then it was time for the new OS X Yosemite. The
new OS X is greatly influenced by the design of iOS 7. The fonts are now
slimmer and less bold. The apps and the dock get a translucent feel. Also the
spotlight search gets a complete overhaul as it now not only searches the
system but also the web for search results. Some other features that Apple
introduced were widgets in Notification Center,iCloud Drive, Mail Drop, Markup
and new UI for Safari. There was also a sneakpeak to the new Photos app for the
mac which will be coming in future to Yosemite.
But Apple also introduced something entirely different and
unexpected called Continuity with OS X Yosemite. Under Continuity there are a
number of features that make your transition from the iOS to a Mac or
vise-versa easier. Continuity brings the following features to OS X Yosemite :
1.
Airdrop between iOS and Mac.
2.
Handoff - which lets you complete a document or email from your
iOS device on a Mac in real time when the device comes in proximity of a
Mac. And this works in the other direction too.
3. Instant
Hotspot - on your iPhone for your Mac.
4. Text
Messages relayed from your iPhone onto the Mac.
5. Phone
Calls relayed from your iPhone onto the Mac.
6. Phone
dailing from the Mac.
Then came iOS 8. The new iOS brings new features for the users as well as for the developers. There are about 100 new features for the users which bring subtle enhancements to the iOS 7.
Some of the new iOS 8 features are :

Something that was floating
in the rumours was that Apple might launch the app called HealthBook. But
instead of this Apple launched HealthKit and an app called Health. This Health
app will be the one place where all the health and fitness related apps will
contribute to a composite profile. The Photos app also recieved some usefull
features like smartediting controls for editing the photos. Siri also got new
enhancments like Shazam integration and direct command "Hey, Siri"
like Google Now.
Then there was one thing which came as a surprise at the event and that was "Swift". A new programming language from Apple. Apple want to add more developers for its AppStore by making the process of App making easier, and Swift is the step in this direction. Apps for the Appstore are programmed in Objective C which is a bit hard. But now with Swift Apple is trying to make it really easy by cutting the lines of code.
So that was all the new stuff that Apple introduced at this years WWDC. Overall the event was really fun even though there was no iWatch anouncement or any hints for the bigger iPhone 6. But Apple did win the hearts of its beloved DEVELOPERS.
